Biblical Literature
The art and theory of literary interpretation are rooted in the great traditions of biblical study which for over two thousand years provided a fertile context for the development of new forms of reading and hermeneutic reflection. With the segregation of secular and religious literature and the success of higher criticism as a specialized discipline, this ancient link has been obscured, to the impoverishment of both biblical studies and the liberal arts. The Indiana Series in Biblical Literature seeks to encourage adventurous modes of interpretation that will reflect a unified awareness of traditional hermeneutics, modern biblical scholarship, and current literary theory with its tributary disciplines.
