No Place Like Murder Book Launch, Signing, and Fundraiser

Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum (418 Fairview Ave, Tipton, IN 46072)

Event for Janis Thorton's No Place Like Murder at the Tipton Historical Society on October 10, 2020

On Saturday, October 10th, at 1:00 p.m., the Tipton County Historical Society will be hosting a book signing, at the Fairview Cemetery Mausoleum. Janis will be speaking about her book, No Place Like Murder: True Crime in the Midwest, and the people in it. Books will be on for sale for $20 each the day of the signing.

One of Tipton’s most heinous crimes is talked about in the book. About 4 years ago, The Tipton County Historical Society found the story in court records and told Janis about it. In 1876, Hannah Van Buskirk King Snider, and her daughter Mollie King were the victims. Her husband, Dan Snider was the murderer. The story is a gruesome one, and Dan Snider basically got off the hook. His story doesn’t end there. You will need to read the book or come to the signing to hear the rest of his despicable story.

Hannah and Mollie lie in unmarked graves in the old section of Fairview Cemetery. They are believed to be buried next to Hannah’s husband David King. In 1927/1928, the stone was found by Mr. O’Banion, but by 1978, when the DAR wrote their Tipton County Cemetery Books, the stone was missing.

To honor Hannah, the proceeds of the book, will go towards a new headstone in the cemetery for her. Donations towards the stone will also be accepted. The stone will be set next spring.
Any questions about the event can be made by calling the Tipton County Historical Society at 765-675-5828 OR by emailing [email protected]. There will be a limited amount of books available at the signing.
